About
El Kusillo means harlequin in the local language Aymara. Kusillo was a comedy character from colonial times in pantomime and has become a traditional character, a person who dresses up in colourful custom and entertains regional festivities and is known for picking on the shy and quiet. Finca El Kusillo is owned by the Los Rodríguez family, the farm was started in 2016 and it is now in its second main harvest. It is located next to Finca La Linda and a banana plantation wall divides both farms. The farm is young, and the family plans to start pruning for the first time after the 2021 harvest. In the lowlands of the farm there is a small river stream which is a subsidiary branch of the Amazon and brings wildlife to the area. Over 20% of the farm surrounding the river is a natural reserve, the rest planted with Red Caturra and Java. This year El Kusillo has had a wonderful flowering and an abundant crop is expected for 2022. After the coming crop no pruning planned as such, only a small amount of top heading known as ‘Decote’ where the top head of the trees are cut to encourage lateral branch growth.
