The Burbano Moncayo family have owned Finca Las Palmeras for the last 44 years and the family have always worked in coffee. Diana Burbano Moncayo, her siblings, and parents Franco Javier Burbano and Imelda Moncayo all contribute to the running of the farm. Each has their own area of work and responsibility. Alongside the coffee, the farm produces plantain and fruit for the local markets. Like many farmers, the family has a schedule of longer term maintenance. Last year they completed a second floor to the main house to give them more space to dry their coffee and this year they will expand their micro-beneficio in order to cope with the amount of cherry they process during the crop. On a larger scale, the family have joined forces with their neighbours to work on a community irrigation project.
