Montes de Cristo

We first tasted coffee from Doña Carmen's farm Montes de Cristo over a decade ago now and were impressed with the balance between its acidity and sweetness. The Montes de Cristo farm has almost three hectares of coffee and only produces a small number of bags each year, so we always feel fortunate to have the coffee on our counter. It has been an exceptionally difficult few years for Doña Carmen and while trying to get the farm back to full productivity she has been busy growing and selling succulent plants; her daughters photograph and market them on social media. She has added an orchid nursery to this and is now selling orchids to wholesalers who find retailers to stock them. Doña Carmen is forever enterprising and has added raising ducks and chickens for sale, alongside orchard stone fruits, and is now starting to roast her own coffee for the local market. This really is a brilliant example of a well-diversified farm. We’re pleased to be able to continue to support Montes de Cristo, it is a beautiful farm and Doña Carmen is working incredibly hard to keep it going.
