Hipolito Uluri learnt coffee growing from his father and has been farming since the 1990s. He grows coffee and citrus for the local markets and is a member of Agricafe's (agricafe.com.bo
) Sol de Mañana program. The program provides agricultural and market assistance to farmers in the Caranavi region with the aim of providing agronomy training to help increase the quantity and quality of coffee from the area. Before joining the program Hipolito’s production was 120kg of parchment-covered coffee per hectare, with the skills and knowledge he has gained from Agricafe he has been able to increase this to 1200kg per hectare, which makes an enormous difference to his family’s quality of life and the opportunities for his children. Better pruning and plant nutrition have been the major changes that have helped with this increase of productivity. New plots being planted are now planned to avoid plant competition for nutrients and sunlight.
