Carmelo is originally from El Alto, La Paz and moved to Uchumachi, Caranavi with his parents when he was a child. He has been a coffee producer since 1995 and a member of Agricafe’s ( Sol de Mañana program since 2018. The program provides agricultural and market assistance to farmers in the Caranavi region with the aim of providing agronomy training to help increase the quantity and quality of coffee from the area. Carmelo has three hectares of coffee planted with the Red and Yellow Caturra varieties. He also grows banana, yucca, and coca leaf for family consumption. His son Marco has helped him this year with the harvest and farm activities. For 2021 they are both planning to plant a new plot with more coffee.
