About
Alvans Mutero inherited Mutero from his father, who established the farm in 1959. Alvans has more than doubled the size of the farm over the last two decades and now has over 9000 SL28 coffee trees in production. SL28 is one of our favourite varietals planted in Kenya – it is known for its berry notes, juicy body and bright acidity. Sadly, many SL28 trees have been removed from other farms for varietals that have more resistance to disease and pests. It has been a good crop for Alvans, there was minimal rainfall during the flowering season which led to a better than average conversion of flower to cherry and an even ripening. Because it has been dry when it was meant to be dry there also hasn’t been as much leaf rust or coffee borer problems, so the trees have come through the crop well and are in good shape for next year.
