This month we have the very sad news that our days of enjoying a Sally Clarke chocolate truffle with a coffee are coming to an end. We don’t know how long we have had the truffles on our counters – certainly more than the 20 years of our longest serving staff member. Unfortunately, the two people most likely to know, those who were actually around when it first started, Sally and Anita, can’t remember when it happened either. But happen it did, and we definitely know that we have absolutely loved every single one of them. Whether you had them room temperature, or fridge-cold, they are the most delightful treat with a coffee. Full of cream, lots of chocolate, a snappy well-tempered outer shell covering a soft, melty interior. Oh yes.
Now, we can deal with this in a number of different ways. Some of us are being stoic about it and accepting that we can only control how we react to the news and are rereading Seneca. Some are still in the denial stage, and plenty have moved into bargaining, but nobody seems to have reached acceptance. The optimists amongst us are thinking this is a new and invigorating opportunity to make a positive change for the future – they haven’t actually said what the positive change is, but it is apparently there, so there is that. One of us decided that making truffles can’t be that hard, right? So we gave it a good go and made three batches and started to realise that maybe there is more to it than first appears and it is better to leave it to the experts – the type of experts that make truffles.
And so, as this sounds like our best plan, here is our appeal. If you make chocolate truffles, or work for someone who does, we would love to talk to you. We need deliveries to our three shops a few times a week, so ideally the chocolate truffle maker would be London based. Please reach out to us!
We will have our last delivery from Sally Clarke on the 31st of this month. We expect that delivery to last only a few days and we hope to have something to replace them as soon as we can.
