We’re delighted to have coffee from Ezequiel Macario Castillo Erazo’s farm Finca La Granja back on the counter this year. Ezequiel Macario, along with neighbours, lost his entire harvest the year before due to prolonged heavy rain. For this crop, to give his trees the best chance to produce as much coffee as possible, Ezequiel Macario concentrated all of his efforts on focussed nutrition for his trees and strategic pruning. The dedication, hard work, and good weather all helped in a good-sized crop which is full of the juicy red-fruit flavours we have come to know from this coffee. Unfortunately, the heavy rain also caused significant damage to the road which Ezequiel Macario and his neighbours had been building and improving. The road was to provide proper vehicle access to the farms for the family but has been all but destroyed by landslides. The families are back to using an old track to the farms which can only be used by horses and motorbikes. All materials taken to the farm use this track, and it is the only way to get the coffee out for sale. This is a significant set-back and it will take some time for the land to stabilise and the project to start up again. Ezequiel Macario is grateful for the help from his son Danilo Castillo over this time.

Grind Guide

Cafetière

A coarse grind also suitable for cold brew. We use the word cafetière, but this can also be referred to as a French press, plunger or press pot.

Aeropress slow

Suitable for making a long, filter style coffee, often brewed for a few minutes. Similar to our paper filter setting.

Filter

This is suitable for our paper filters and ceramic or plastic cones, along with other brands such as V60, Clever dripper and Melitta.

Stovetop

This is an espresso style grind suitable for use in hob top espresso pots such as a Bialetti or Grunwerg. Sometimes referred to as a moka pot.

Aeropress fast

This is also an espresso style grind ideal for brewing a short, concentrated, espresso style coffee in an Aeropress.

Domestic espresso

A fine grind for using in your home espresso machine. Grind requirements will vary depending on brand and model, but this setting aims to work for the majority of home setups.

Whole beans

For use in your home grinder!

If you use a different method such as a syphon or Chemex, require a custom grind or need some advice, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
