About
Henry Gutierrez Mora bought El Chinito in 2010 to add to the family farm that his father and grandfather before him owned and managed. The farm is now 22 hectares in size and around 12 hectares of this is planted with coffee. Henry has Catuaí, Híbrido Centroamericano and Tekisic growing. As the coffee trees become tired and less productive, they are replaced with young coffee plants which Henry buys locally. There have been many problems over the years with imported seed and seedlings being found to be unproductive in different environments, so Henry prefers to use varietals proven in his area. Henry has avocado trees to shade the coffee, their fruit is an additional source of income alongside the 16 cows Henry has for milk production. The manure collected from the cows is also used to make a natural fertiliser for the farm.
